6th Grade Standards

Religion:

  • Understand the liturgical year as a call to repentance
  • Know the definition and effects of sacramental holy objects and actions
  • Experience and learn the importance of the Liturgy of the Hours
  • Show familiarity with leading prater using prayer book
  • Six tasks of the catechesis
  • Name the categories of the Old Testament
  • Explain the covenant relationship

Language Arts:

  • Understands and uses the writing process
  • Writes in a variety of forms for different audiences and purposes
  • Writes clearly and effectively
  • Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of written work
  • Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
  • Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments

Math:

  • Fluently use all operations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions
  • Analyze data through surveys and sampling
  • Find area and volume of solids
  • Use Cartesian coordinates to graph in four quadrants

Middle School Science:

  • We have adopted the Smithsonian Education Program (Carolina Science) in 2018. Lessons apply science concepts to NGSS engineering design with hands on investigation in the real world. Literacy and math connections bridge the science concept and lead to deeper understanding. Over the course of middle school Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth/Space Science units are explored.

Social Studies

  • Understands the rise of Ancient Civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Jerusalem, Greece, Rome, Africa
  • Understands the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services
  • Understands the government’s role in the economy
  • Identifies locations of countries, cities, and physical features in Asia, Europe, and Africa
  • Understands the physical characteristics, cultural characteristics, and location of places, regions, and spatial patterns on the Earth’s surface
  • Understands positions on a current issues or events
